Snowball Cocktail

Snowball

This English Christmas drink tastes like a cross between egg nog and an ice-cream float. In order to make a Snowball you must first make the Danish egg liquor Advocaat. The recipe is very easy and outlined below. Remember to keep the heat at the lowest setting to avoid cooking the egg and evaporating the alcohol.

Servings: 4 – Preparation Time: 15 minutes

Ingredients

500 ml British Lemonade*

Advocaat
1 egg
2 yolks
1/3 cup sugar
1/3 cup brandy

Instructions

In small saucepan, whisk egg, yolks and sugar over low heat. It is important that the heat remains low and that you continue to whisk so the eggs don’t have a chance to scramble. Continue whisking until sugar has dissolved and the mixture begins to thicken. Slowly add brandy in a steady stream and continue whisking vigorously for approx. 1 minute. Remove from heat and pour liquid through a fine mesh strainer to remove any bits of cooked egg. Allow to chill in refrigerator. When completely chilled, fill a glass half way with Advocaat and the rest with British lemonade.

* British Lemonade or French Lemonade is a mildly flavoured lemon soda with no pulp. (Like Sprite without the lime flavour). It is widely available in many grocery stores.
